Researcher at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in the area of photovoltaic solar energy from the same university, with a sandwich period at the University of New South Wales - Australia. He has extensive experience in the area of photovoltaic solar energy, acting in more than 3GW of projects in the following topics: design, simulation, commissioning, operation, maintenance and performance evaluation in photovoltaic systems, offgrid and connected to the public grid (BAPV, BIPV and photovoltaic plants). Since 2005 he has been working at the Center for Research and Training in Solar Energy at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (www.fotovoltaica.ufsc.br), Photovoltaic Laboratory - UFSC, where he is currently a researcher and conducts his post-doctoral research on the topics of photovoltaic systems and energy storage.

Off-grid systems in the Amazon region and other remote locations represent less than 1% of domestic electricity consumption, however, more than 80% of that electricity is generated from fossil fuels. This session will focus on the role of energy storage as an enabler of decarbonizing off-grid energy generation, both in the Amazon region and other remote locations.
