Five Questions to Players in the Renewable Energy World – Dr. Florian Wessendorf

Expert Interview

Dr. Florian Wessendorf, Managing Director of Solar Promotion International

The renewable energy world is changing at a rapid pace and offers new job opportunities with special chances and challenges. In this series, we ask people who are working in different areas of the renewable energy sector 5 questions about their jobs:

1. Why renewables? Profession or vocation?
Vocation. The effects of climate change are brought home to us on a daily basis. Record frequency and intensity of hurricanes, droughts, forest fires and floods dominate media reports. Scientists expect fatal tipping points in the near future. But panic and fatalism are misplaced given the gigantic opportunities that a transition to a renewable energy world offers us. The toolbox for a successful transformation is already at our disposal.

2. What in your career prepared you in particular for your current job?
It is a mixture of passion for renewable energy, the ability to identify, evaluate and communicate current and future market and technology trends and the ability to build successful mission-focus teams.

3. Do you have role models, and if so, who and why?
I don’t believe I have a specific role model. Most likely my parents. Who have worked hard with courage and diligence their way up from humble beginnings. Their attitude has been always that their own children should have it better one day.

4. What was your biggest professional challenge?
Dealing with the impact of the current pandemic. It is still a challenge to ensure both the health of exhibitors, partners, visitors, and employees and to give the industry and the market a clear perspective to restart business events at the same time. Our partners can trust us to act responsibly and cool-headed even in difficult situations.

5. What has been your greatest professional achievement?
Making The smarter E South America the biggest and leading renewable energy exhibition and conference in Latin America.
