Dr. Ricardo Bortolini is RDI Project Manager at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) unit of the Brazilian Company of Research and Industrial Innovation (EMBRAPII) and Technical Advisor at the Distributed Energy Resources Laboratory (DERLab). As one of DERLab's founders, he served as Technical Manager for six years, leading the development of testing and certification capabilities and contributing to Brazil's standardization infrastructure through collaboration with ABNT, IEC, and Inmetro. His current work focuses on research, development, and innovation projects in renewable energy, with emphasis on photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). He is leading the expansion of DERLab's laboratory infrastructure for testing BESS, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), batteries and the modeling and validation of inverter-based power plants to meet the technical requirements of the Brazilian National System Operator (ONS). His expertise includes testing, certification, grid integration, and standards for distributed energy resources and energy storage technologies.
